‘Petty theft isn’t a concern,’ says ex-CVS employee who claims staff cannot confront shoplifters and cops ignore reports

AN ALLEGED former CVS employee has claimed that the major drugstore does not consider “petty theft” to be a large security concern.

The ex-employee claimed it is a part of the retailer’s larger security policy to not confront shoplifters.

The shocking claim was made in a subreddit thread about CVS, in which alleged employees of the drug store claimed they would no longer be stopping shoplifters they saw while on the job.

However, one alleged former employee (u/notthegoatseguy) claimed the employees have been doing this for years.

In fact, the alleged ex-employee went as far to claim that petty theft isn’t a “security concern” for CVS at all.

“To be frank, petty theft is not a security concern,” the Reddit user claimed.

“The security guard is not part of loss prevention but is there for the general safety of the people in the store. If LP wants to send someone there to police loss, they can do it themselves.”

The user continued: “Someone walking out with some toothpaste or makeup doesn’t impact people’s safety in the store.”

In the post, the alleged former employee went on to claim that store-level employees were never supposed to confront thieving customers and “still can’t confront now.”

“And honestly if you are located in an actual city, I bet law enforcement won’t respond to your thefts at all anyway. It isn’t a priority. If you’re lucky, they’ll send someone within 6 hours to take a report.”

However, for employees who are in danger during a shoplifting incident, the Reddit user recommended calling 911.

It was not immediately clear how long the alleged former employee worked for CVS.

Dozens of other alleged employees agreed with the post, with some saying they are not paid extra to stop shoplifters.

“Yes for me, nothing has changed. We were never allowed to confront anyone anyway,” one Reddit user agreed.

“The same as when they set of the alarm at the door. They usually keep walking anyway. I’m beginning to believe the thiefs have known this for quite some time.”

“I don’t pay attention to shoplifters…its not in my budgeted hours!” another commented.
