Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, describing as unfounded the circulating rumours of an impeachment plot in the state.
The resolution followed Wednesday’s plenary session in Ibadan, the state capital, where lawmakers reiterated their backing for both the executive arm under Makinde and the legislative leadership led by Ogundoyin.
The Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency, moved the motion during the sitting.
In his submission, he characterised the allegations as “baseless, distracting, and politically motivated.”
While presenting the motion, Adedoyin said, “The Assembly remains united and committed to its constitutional responsibilities, and no formal communication or process suggesting impeachment had been initiated within the chamber.”
The PUNCH reports a speculation that Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoda, alongside the speaker and some lawmakers, initiated an impeachment plot against the governor, a situation which created palpable fears in the state.
The Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, immediately distanced himself from alleged impeachment discussions against the governor, saying he was not involved in any such arrangement and would not participate in actions capable of destabilising the state.
He described those spreading the claims as enemies of the state and commended t he House for resisting what he termed an “evil plot” aimed at destabilising what he called a performing administration.

“There is no division in this House. We are focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State through quality representation.
“The rumours making the rounds exist only in the realm of speculation and should be disregarded in their entirety by the public,” he said.
At Wednesday’s sitting, the Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Fadeyi, who seconded the motion, described the legislature as a unified House.
He also commended Makinde’s leadership, particularly highlighting achievements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Other lawmakers echoed similar sentiments, noting that the strong collaboration between the executive and legislative arms had significantly enhanced stability and development across the state.
Oyekola, in his contribution, said, “The Assembly cannot be influenced or manipulated by any individual or group. I want to urge those behind the alleged plot to desist.”
He, therefore, reaffirmed the House’s loyalty to Makinde and the leadership under the Speaker, Ogundoyin.
