Ocheho assures adequate training for handball W’Cup

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Ocheho, has promised adequate preparation for the Nigerian team ahead of the 10th edition of the U-18 Women’s Handball Championship in China, Punch Sports Extra reports.

The championship is scheduled to take place from August 14 to 25 in Chuzhou, with Nigeria making their debut after several failed qualification bids.

Nigeria are lodged in Group B alongside European giants Croatia, Montenegro, and Angola, who fell to coach Agboola’s side in the third-place match of the 2023 Africa U-18 Women’s Handball Championship in Monastir, Tunisia.

Four months before the commencement of the championship, Ocheho said the team would get adequate training.

“This is another challenge for us to make history as we are going to be playing at the World Cup for the first time, and we, the Handball Federation of Nigeria, are determined to ensure the team does well, and that will begin with us ensuring that the girls have the best of preparation,” Ocheho said.

sealed their qualification after defeating Morocco in the quarter-finals of the Africa U-18 Women’s Handball Championship in Monastir, Tunisia, last year.

They lost to Egypt in the semi-finals but went on to finish third in the Nations Cup after defeating Angola in the third-place match.

The team comfortably dominated the IHF Women’s Trophy in the Africa Zone 3 phase and continental phase in Ghana and Congo Brazzaville, respectively, before losing to Kosovo in the final of the IHF Women’s Trophy Intercontinental Phase in Uzbekistan to finish second in the global championship.
