The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Audi, has ordered the decentralisation of Safe School Initiative training.
The Safe School Initiative is a programme by the Federal Government aimed at protecting schoolchildren against all forms of insecurity across the country.
Speaking during a workshop for Safe School instructors and facilitators on Monday in Abuja, Audi said the decentralisation was to ensure the training got to the local government areas, where many of the affected schools are.
He also said this would allow the participation of some members of the host communities, adding that the training would empower them to contribute their quota to the protection of schools in their communities.
He said, “I directed the Commander of the Centre for the immediate devolution of some training programmes to regional, state, and local levels. This arrangement is a deliberate attempt to decentralise training from Abuja to states and local governments, where the majority of schools are situated.
“This will also allow host communities the opportunity to participate in the training to be better equipped to support the protection of schools in their domain.”
He, however, disclosed that senior officers of the corps would undergo Safe Schools across the country between September 6 and 20.
Audi said, “To this effect, the Safe Schools Coordinators Course has been slated for senior officers of the Corps in the North-East Zone from September 6 to 8, 2023, while that of the North Central Zone is for September 18 to 20, 2023.
“Arrangements have also been completed for similar training in all the other geo-political zones and shall be rolled out one after the other.”
