The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation has announced the rescheduling of the Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby Sevens Cup, moving the third edition of the tournament from April to June 2026, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The competition, which was initially scheduled to take place from April 23 to 25 in Abeokuta, will now hold in June, with a final date to be confirmed after further consultations with stakeholders and participating teams.
According to the federation, the decision was reached following internal discussions aimed at improving the organisation, competitiveness and overall quality of the tournament, while also allowing for greater team participation and wider international involvement.
Explaining the adjustment, tournament sponsor and Chief Operating Officer of the NRFF, Tunde Delu, said the shift was necessary to strengthen the event’s structure and appeal.
“Following consultations and considering the growing profile of the sport, as well as the need to accommodate more teams and enhance the tournament’s international appeal, we have decided to move the competition to June,” Delu said.
“The specific date and further details will be communicated after final consultations with participating teams and partners.”
