‘Nobody bothers us,’ says man living in makeshift ‘tiny home’ next to LA freeway – but there’s a big neighbor issue

A TINY homeowner has caused a commotion in his community after making his home from scratch and planting it on the side of the freeway.

A man named Cesar has stunned many, as he built a fully functioning tiny home on the side of a Los Angeles freeway, near Highland Park.

“He has lights, a stove, refrigerator for food; it’s in good condition,” said Cesar, who described his home to local ABC affiliate KABC.

Cesar has been living in a homeless encampment with many others for the past four years.

He said he chose to make his home and plant it along the freeway due to the rising rent prices in California.

“For my work, I can’t do that and move to another place because the rent is too high,” he said.

Cesar can only work two days a week at his part-time job.

“It’s good because nobody bothers us,” said Cesar.

While he likes the area where his home is planted, others believe it’s a major issue.

Highland Park residents have begun to complain about the growing community along the freeway, according to reporter Marc Cota-Robles at KABC.

On Monday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass addressed wealthy residents asking them to support a campaign to help create affordable housing for the homeless community.

“We will not hide people but what we will do is house people”, she said.

“The crisis on our streets is nothing less than a disaster.”

Council member Eunisses Hernandez also released a statement following the news.

“Our outreach teams are working to urgently find housing for the individuals living in this encampment and address the safety issues posed by this structure and its proximity to the river.

“As the City continues to face a housing and homelessness crisis, there are currently not enough housing options available to accommodate the more than 46,000 people who are experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles.

“Our office believes that this status quo is unacceptable and is working to urgently address this crisis, with both short-term and long-term solutions.”
