The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, has suspended the accreditation status of Niger State Colleges of Minna, Bida, and Kontagora for violating the admission quota approved for them.
The council also barred the colleges from granting admission to the institutions.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the provost of Niger State College of Nursing Sciences, Minna, and signed by council registrar Faruk Abubakar.
In the letter dated March 22, Mr Abubakar said the decision followed complaints and on the spot-assessment by the council.
He said the institutions violated the admission quota by over 400 percent.
The letter read: “Sequel to the complaints received and report of on-the-spot assessment conducted by the Council, it was revealed that all the three campuses of the Niger State College of Nursing Sciences have violated council approved admission quota by more than 400%. This is above the available human and physical resources in the college campuses.
“In view of the above, the Management of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has suspended the accreditation status of Niger State College of Nursing Sciences Bida, Minna, and Kotangora campuses and has placed an embargo on students’ intake with immediate effect.
“The action is in line with the rules and regulations governing accreditation and admission of students as enshrined in the Act of the Council. The aforementioned campuses haven admitted more than four hundred [400] students each as against seventy-five [75], seventy [70] and one hundred [100] intake approved, respectively, is hereby barred from further admission of students.
“In addition, you are expected to provide strategies to be used in training the excess students admitted in order to maintain regulatory activities such as indexing, examinations, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the excess students are trained.
“Please note that at the instance of this letter, admission of students in all three campuses is hereby suspended in the Niger State College of Nursing Sciences Bida, Minna, and Kontagora campuses.”
