Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic assignment in the Gulf nation.

The credential presentation ceremony took place on Thursday at the Amiri Diwan in Doha, where Ambassador Yakubu was received with full diplomatic honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour. He was accompanied by senior officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar.
Following the formal ceremony, Ambassador Yakubu held a private audience with the Amir during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding relations between Nigeria and Qatar.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Qatari leader extended a warm welcome to the Nigerian envoy and recalled previous high-level diplomatic engagements between the two countries.
The Amir also expressed Qatar’s readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation with Nigeria across areas of mutual interest, reflecting the growing partnership between both nations.
During the meeting, Ambassador Yakubu conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Amir and the people of Qatar.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to expanding the existing relationship between the two countries, stressing the Federal Government’s determination to strengthen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The ambassador also conveyed Nigeria’s condolences to the Amir over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City, expressing sympathy with the government and people of Qatar over the incident.
Beyond the condolence message, Ambassador Yakubu highlighted the need for both countries to deepen collaboration in strategic sectors, including trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.
The discussions underscored the shared commitment of Nigeria and Qatar to building on existing diplomatic ties and exploring new opportunities for economic and strategic cooperation.
The presentation of letters of credence is a significant diplomatic procedure that formally recognises an ambassador as the accredited representative of his country, enabling him to officially carry out diplomatic responsibilities in the receiving state.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the engagement reflects the shared resolve of Nigeria and Qatar to further consolidate their cordial relations through enhanced political, economic and people-to-people cooperation.
