There is continued uncertainty over the appointment of a new Super Eagles coach by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
This followed continued speculations and undesirable silence by the NFF.
Heritage Times HT reports that though many Nigerians especially football enthusiasts, administrators and others have been clamouring for an indigenous coach to be given the vacant job, the body language of those administering football in Nigeria speaks differently.
Only few days ago, speculations were rift that a veteran indigenous coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has been handed the plump job, but indications on Monday emerged that the technical committee of NFF might have recommended the appointment of a foreign manager.
Amidst the intrigues hovering around the expected official appointment of the country’s senior national team coach, the Nigerian government had warned that it willnot be responsible for paying whoever the NFF decides to hire, eventually.
Following the development, the NFF technical committee made up of some Ex-Internationals and others, Heritage Times HT gathered also recommended that the Federation should engage an indigenous coach if it can’t afford the services of a quality foreign expatriate.
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports development, Senator John Owan Enoh, had while fielding questions from newsmen last week assured that the appointment of Super Eagles new coach was not expected to exceed two weeks.
Three coaches are said to have made the final shortlist as at the time of filling this report.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are scheduled for 2026 World Cup qualifiers with South Africa and Benin Republic in June.
