The decision comes despite the show’s strong early performance, with the series consistently appearing in the platform’s weekly Top 10 list since release and earning positive reviews from viewers and critics.
The Boroughs, executive produced by the creators of Stranger Things, featured a high-profile cast including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, Denis O’Hare, and Clarke Peters.
The show’s first season centered on a group of retirement community residents who uncover a dark secret after spotting a mysterious creature, blending sci-fi and mystery elements.

Co-creators Will Matthews and Jeffrey Addiss had previously noted that the series was designed with a flexible ending, allowing for a complete story in case it was not renewed.
They said they were advised to “tell a complete story” while still leaving room for a potential second season, without relying on a major cliffhanger.
With the cancellation, the series joins a growing list of high-profile shows ending early on the streaming platform despite solid initial reception.
