“Na your family heritage?” – Mixed reactions as Desmond Elliot announces his bid for a fourth term at Lagos Surulere Constituency

Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot has announced his bid for a fourth term in the Lagos Surulere Constituency.

On his Instagram page, he announced that he has formally obtained the nomination form to seek a return mandate to the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency.

He said the decision is born out of a continued commitment to serve, consolidate on the progress they’ve made together, and advance the collective aspirations of our people further.

Desmond informed that his going back makes him automatically a ranking member, and that loads of benefits come to their constituency as a result of the feat.

“OFFICIAL STATEMENT*

My dear good people of Surulere Constituency, I,

I greet you all with profound respect and gratitude.

I wish to formally inform all Surulereians, workers, residents, political associates, leaders, stakeholders, and the good people of Surulere, that I have obtained the nomination form to seek a return mandate to the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency I.

This decision is borne out of a continued commitment to serve, to build on the progress we have made together, and to advance the collective aspirations of our people further. I remain deeply grateful for the trust, encouragement, and solidarity you have shown me over the years.
May I state here that my return makes me an automatic ranking member, and that a host of benefits come to our constituency as a result of this feat? By the grace of God Almighty, I have become one of the oldest members in the house, and in a structure where the older members are given priority, we can rest assured that Surulere will benefit immensely.
To all our party leaders in Surulere Local Government, ward executives, community leaders, youth groups, women’s associations, and stakeholders across Lagos State and beyond, I sincerely appreciate your unwavering support, guidance, and belief in our shared vision.
I urge all my supporters to remain calm, steadfast, and focused. Let us continue to uphold peace, unity, and respect as we move forward together on this political journey. Our strength has always been in our togetherness, and I am confident that same spirit will guide us again.

Reacting to his bid, one Instagram user, Chi_nwa_ngwa, wrote, “You no go like rest abi nah family heritage

One buzordamaris wrote, “So na only you dey Suruelere for this post”.

In 2023, Desmond emerged victorious in the House of Assembly with 17,837 votes.

Following his victory, he penned an appreciation post to his opponents, commending their efforts in the election. He made an offer to them and pledged to give his utmost to provide succour and relief to his constituents.

The politician and his supporters had celebrated his re-election with a victory party in the Surulere 1 constituency. In viral clips, his supporters were seen chanting victory songs for him.

Desmond had also paid an appreciation visit to the speaker of the House of Representatives. He appreciated him for being his father, mentor, leader, and the nation’s speaker.

Tackling him over his victory message, blogger Stella Dimoko Korkus noted that he was only repeating the same old story, as he wouldn’t do anything for his constituency.

Replying to her, Desmond Elliot threatened to block Stella Dimoko Korkus, and she fired back, urging him to carry out his threat, noting that he doesn’t feed.

Last year, during the Bye election, Elliot had sparked outrage for distributing perfumes, books, and pencils to Nigerian Youths. This was to ease the hardship and predicament in the country.

This wasn’t surprising as while rerunning for Surulere constituency, Desmond had donated transformers for his constituency. The then two-term incumbent Surulere representative revealed on social media that he had commissioned the installment of high-capacity transformers in Surulere, to bring reliable electricity to communities that have long needed it”.
