The Joint Action for Good Governance, JAGG, says full implementation of the Steve Oronsaye led committee report should be carried out with due diligence and consideration for impact on citizens.
The group made this known on Tuesday in a statement jointly signed by its National Vice President, Abdulwaheed Odunuga and the National Secretary, Rasaq Aderibigbe in Lagos.
Recall that the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, adopted for implementation, the Oronsaye’s “White Paper on Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.
“JAGG acknowledges President Tinubu’s initiative to implement the recommendations outlined in the Oronsaye White Paper.
“JAGG emphasises the importance of transparency, accountability, and genuine commitment to the welfare of Nigerians in all government actions.
“While we welcome efforts to streamline government operations and improve service delivery, it is essential that it’s impact on workers and citizens should also be considered.”
The body noted that it was imperative to scrutinise the genuineness of the intent behind the move.
It said that as advocates for good governance, JAGG would closely monitor the implementation process and ensure that the interests of the people were prioritised.
The group urged the government to engage stakeholders, including labour unions and civil society organisations in constructive dialogue to address concerns and ensure fair and equitable transition.
Recall that in 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan established the Presidential Committee on Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions, and Agencies, with Oronsaye as Chairman.
Submitted in 2012, the Oronsaye report highlighted the existence of 541 Federal Government parastatals, commissions, and agencies, both statutory and non-statutory.
The 800-page report recommended the reduction of statutory agencies from 263 to 161, scrapping 38 agencies, merging 52, and reverting 14 to departments in different ministries.
Coming from a private sector background, Oronsaye transitioned into the civil service at a senior level and ascended to the position of Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
