Liverpool vs Tottenham – A battle for nothing (A preview)

The game has been billed as part of a ‘Super Sunday’. But there will be nothing special about Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur today.

The two teams are fighting for nothing with three fixtures left.

There was a time when Jurgen Klopp’s men were part of a three-horse race for the Premier League along with Arsenal and Manchester City.

That fizzled out after a 2-0 defeat to Everton in the Merseyside Derby and an uninspiring 2-2 draw to West Ham.

Whatever hope that was left disappeared completely on Saturday, after Arsenal beat Bournemouth and City thrashed Wolves 5-1. Those emphatic results made it clear that the two frontrunners were not in the mood to drop any points, for Liverpool to miraculously win the title.

It has been another Spursy season for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

The Australian coach got off to a flying start and there were infographics already comparing them to Arsenal’s Invincibles.

The North London club even went five points clear at a stage. But those who are familiar with how the cookie crumbles with them just needed to wait.

And true to type, they have fallen off spectacularly. If they lose to Anfield on Sunday, it would be a fourth consecutive defeat during the business end of the season – which included a two-week break.

To think there was a time Tottenham were hailed as the team that could decide the destiny of the title. They were also fighting Aston Villa for the last Champions League spot.

It seems they will eventually end up in the Europa League.

Spurs vs Liverpool could have been quite a crucial fixture at this time of this season. But what it would be, is just another meaningless game, as the campaign peters out.

Still, expect the hosts to win.
