The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a new junior secondary school in Shogunle, a move aimed at widening access to education and reducing barriers faced by students in Oshodi-Isolo.

At the inauguration, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, represented by Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District VI, Mrs Mojisola Yusuff, described the project as a strategic investment in human capital development.

“This project embodies our collective commitment to providing quality education that equips children with the skills, knowledge, and values necessary to excel in life,” he said, adding that the government “remains dedicated to sustained investment in school infrastructure and teacher development to improve learning outcomes and create an inclusive, accessible, and responsive education system.”

The lawmaker representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Bashiru Dawodu, who facilitated the project, said the school was conceived in response to safety concerns affecting students in the area.

“The risks, including frequent road accidents, made this intervention both urgent and necessary.

With this new school, children in Shogunle will have safer, easier access to education,” he noted.

The Shogunle Junior Secondary School features 10 fully furnished classrooms and is expected to begin academic activities in the 2026/2027 session.

As part of broader educational support, Dawodu also distributed compiled study materials, including past questions for external examinations, to students across schools in the constituency to aid their preparation.

The traditional head of the community, High Chief Ajisegiri, welcomed the development, saying it would improve school attendance and enhance the safety of children who previously travelled long distances for education.
