The CEO of Landmark Beach Resort, Paul Onwuanibe, has entered into discussions with various government levels regarding the rerouting of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, amidst a recent demolition notice by the Lagos State Government.
Onwuanibe is negotiating the adjustment of the initial 1.5 km segment of the highway, proposing a redirection along the undeveloped median of Water Corporation Road to avoid disrupting the resort’s operations.
He confirmed ongoing talks with the Lagos State Government, Federal and State Ministries of Tourism, and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, to reach a mutual agreement that ensures no disruption to business activities.
The Coastal Road project, spanning 700km and awarded to Hitech Construction Company Ltd., has prompted concerns due to its potential impact on Landmark Beach Resort’s ecosystem and the businesses it supports.
Onwuanibe emphasized the importance of preserving the Landmark Group’s contributions to the economy, including tax remittances, job creation, and support for SMEs, while acknowledging the benefits of the Coastal Road project in boosting the local economy.
He highlighted the diverse range of businesses operating within the Landmark Group’s ecosystem, catering to millions of local and international visitors annually, and promoting Lagos as a prominent tourism destination.
