Lagos LCDA crowns beauty queen to promote youth talents

Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area in Lagos State has crowned John Oyinkansola as its beauty queen in a bid to engage and nurture youth talents in the area.

The grand finale of the contest, held on Friday in Lagos, featured young contestants competing for the crown.

The Chairman of the LCDA, Mr Ogidan Azeez, said the initiative was aimed at celebrating youths, encouraging aspiring models and showcasing creativity within the community.

“It is not the beauty pageantry alone we are showcasing today. The LCDA also has one of the best Adire hubs and designers who are part of the programme as exhibitors.

“People will see us as a tourism hub to get Adire from the global world,” he said.

Azeez added that youths in the LCDA are encouraged to present ideas that can be developed with the support of the council and mentors, assuring that more programmes would be organised to build their c apacities.

The Head of Unit, Tourism, Coker-Aguda LCDA, Mrs Thelma Maduike, said the winner would receive a trip to the Benin Republic and a cash prize.

She noted that contestants were selected from the seven wards in the LCDA, adding that the selection criteria included their impact on the community and performance in assigned projects.

Maduike also described the pageant as a platform to empower young women and encourage their participation in societal development.

She said the winner would serve as a tourism ambassador to promote the culture of the LCDA.

The Council Leader, Afeez Sulaimon, said such initiatives would motivate youths and help them achieve greater heights.

“This is going to aid in taking our youths from the local level to the national and even global stage,” he said.

In addition to Oyinkansola, other winners emerged in different categories, including Miss Fitness (Miss Obi Oluwatosin), Miss Klick Super Model (Miss Okoh Princess), Miss Hospitality (Miss Willoughby Sandra) and Miss Photogenic (Miss King Mariam).
