Naija News reports that in a statement released on Tuesday, April 28, the government said there is no truth in the story that the governor was asked to resign because of health issues. It described the report as a made-up story meant to mislead the public and create tension across the state.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the report is part of a growing pattern of fake information being spread online. He explained that the governor is in good condition and continues to carry out his duties without any problem.

According to him, the governor remains active in office and is both mentally and physically capable of leading the state. He said there has been no break in governance and that work is ongoing as usual.

This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign-this is another fake news, which has become a pattern of Sahara Reporters. Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State”,

Akosile said.

The government’s response comes after a report went viral, claiming that Sanwo-Olu was under pressure to leave office, with his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, preparing to take over.

Akosile made it clear that there is no such pressure on the governor and no demand has been made for him to step aside. He said the claims were created to confuse the public and should not be taken seriously.

He also addressed a meeting held between the governor and his deputy earlier in the day. He explained that the meeting was a normal discussion and part of routine political activities. During the meeting, Hamzat shared his plans concerning the 2027 governorship race.

The government said the meeting was peaceful and should not be linked to any crisis or health concerns surrounding the governor.
