The Cole family from Victoria Island, Lagos, has publicly disowned the recent marriage of their son, Taiwo Cole, to popular actress and comedian, Wofai Ewa.
The family issued a statement on Sunday after images and videos of the traditional wedding ceremony, held in Ugep, Cross River State, surfaced online.
Kunle Cole, the family patriarch, vehemently denied any knowledge or approval of the union, saying, “This serves to notify all acquaintances, family, and friends that the Cole family of Victoria Island, Lagos, are not aware of any marriage ceremony involving our son, Taiwo Olakitan Cole; neither did we grant permission nor support in this regard.”
The family also warned against recognising any claims of association with them through this event.
“Person(s) parading themselves as new members of the Cole heritage by virtue of this purported event, are not known nor accepted by the family. All publications and documents being circulated about this are to be disregarded,” the statement continued.
Despite the family’s rejection, Wofai Ewa and Taiwo Cole shared their joy on social media.
Wofai posted on her Instagram, which boasts over a million followers, celebrating her new marital status. “I found my
happily ever after, and I said yes!! Chai!! Love is sweet o. Thank you guys for all the love and messages,” she wrote, accompanied by photos from the ceremony.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with netizens divided in their support for the couple and the family’s stance.
Wofai Ewa, apart from her acting and comedic endeavors, is also
recognised as a chef.
