‘Kroger would never,’ says fuming Walmart shopper over self-checkout receipt checks as fans threaten boycott

FURIOUS Walmart shoppers have threatened to boycott the chain after they were asked to show their receipts once leaving the self-checkout.

Receipt checks have become an issue of great debate online and the inspections have sparked controversy.

Some shoppers are willing to comply, but the polite request has infuriated others.

One Walmart shopper (@4everRamon) was so enraged that he threatened to boycott the popular chain.

In a tirade shared on X, formerly Twitter, he claimed he was “forced” to use the self-checkout machines because there was a lack of available cashiers.

He said: “Then, I get to the door, and you question my integrity by asking to see my receipt. Kroger would never.”

Jacqueline Cervantes (@Cervantes5515) shared: “That’s exactly why I stopped shopping there over a year ago.”

M Tumarkin posted: “I’ve left my cart, walked out of stores when the single cashier line is wrapped around the store or there are no cashiers.”

Other customers have claimed they will scan and pay for items separately.

An X user (@KevinUSMC0844) joked: “Next time I go to Walmart, I’m going to go through self-checkout & ring & pay for each item separately.

“Might bag them all together then when they want to check my receipt. I’ll give it to them one at a time.

“It’ll be like an Easter egg hunt to see if I paid for everything.”

Furious shoppers have claimed they have boycotted the retailer as self-checkout machines have been rolled out.

Clayton L. Ballard has said he’s made a “commitment” never to shop at Walmart supermarkets, per X.  

Another claimed that they have stopped giving Walmart their cash, fuming at the self-checkout, and staffers who check customers are not stealing.

They fumed that the chain is “getting pretty stupid.”

Shoppers have fumed that receipt checks make them feel like criminals.

Walmart has not introduced a nationwide policy that mandates staffers to check shoppers’ receipts when they leave the store.

But, an influencer, purporting to be a Walmart employee, appeared to offer some clarity, per Daily Dot.

Walmart workers are reportedly told not to force a receipt check on a shopper if they refuse to comply.

The law surrounding receipt checks is not totally clear.

Store associates may invoke what’s known as shopkeepers’ privilege if they suspect a shopper is stealing items, as explained on Lawyers.com.

Staffers cannot randomly search shoppers or target people in groups.

Renowned attorney George LaMarche previously told The U.S. Sun store workers should never engage physically with a shopper they believe is shoplifting.

He warned: “That is dangerous for both the customer and the store worker.

“It’s very likely outside the scope of what an employee is trained to do.”

Legal experts have suggested that showing a receipt will save hassle in-store.

Customers who use a membership store, such as Costco, must comply with the inspections.

Refusing to comply with the checks could see shoppers banned from using the chain.

This is because they are deliberately choosing not to comply with the membership terms and conditions.
