The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced moves to restore suppressed State Constituencies across four states, with Kogi State accounting for the highest number.

In an internal memo dated April 30, 2026, and addressed to Resident Electoral Commissioners in Delta, Kogi, Benue and Jigawa states, the Commission approved the commencement of technical processes aimed at restoring the affected constituencies.
The memo, signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, indicated that the exercise will cover 11 constituencies in Kogi, four in Delta, five in Benue and one in Jigawa , bringing the total to 21 based on the state-by-state breakdown, although the Commission referenced 20 court-ordered constituencies.
According to the document, the technical processes will involve stakeholders’ engagement at the state head offices as well as fieldwork in the affected constituencies
. The exercise is aimed at obtaining relevant geographical and demographic data necessary for the production and validation of constituency maps and other technical documents.

INEC directed the Resident Electoral Commissioners to liaise with relevant stakeholders, including traditional institutions, community leaders, security agencies and other critical actors, to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise.
They were also instructed to provide necessary administrative and logistical support to field teams and ensure adequate security arrangements for all personnel and equipment deployed for the fieldwork.
The Commission further requested the nomination of suitable officers from the states to work with the technical team from its headquarters.
