Kogi Confirms Rescue of All Abducted Orphanage Victims

The Kogi State Government has confirmed the successful rescue of all victims abducted from an orphanage in Zariagi community near Lokoja, bringing relief to families and residents after days of uncertainty.

Authorities say the victims, who were kidnapped from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage, were freed following a coordinated operation by troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade in collaboration with other security agencies.

The final group of nine victims — including five boys, two girls, and two adult women — were rescued on May 6 from the Agbaja Forest area in Lokoja Local Government Area.

Officials confirm that all rescued victims have been taken to a military medical facility, where they are receiving treatment and care.

In a statement, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo said Governor Usman Ododo has commended the security forces for their professionalism and bravery, describing the operation as a strong signal that criminal activities will not be tolerated in the state.

He also praised the resilience of the victims and their families, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The Governor further expressed appreciation to Bola Tinubu for continued support to security efforts in the state.

TVC News had earlier reported the attack on an orphanage and school facility in Zariagi, along the Kabba Junction axis of Lokoja, describing the incident as unfortunate and preventable.

The attack occurred late on April 26, 2026, when suspected gunmen stormed the premises, abducting 23 pupils and the wife of the proprietor.

The development was disclosed in a Monday statement by the Kogi state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, who later disclosed that 15 of the abducted pupils have been rescued following the swift intervention of security agencies.

He identified the facility as Dahallukitab Group of Schools, noting that it was allegedly operating illegally in a remote, bushy area without registration or the knowledge of relevant authorities and security agencies.

According to the Commissioner, security operatives, led by the Nigeria Police Force and supported by other agencies, responded promptly, leading to the successful rescue of the 15 victims.

The Kogi State Government has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on kidnapping and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down and prosecute those responsible.
