Michael Donovan, the individual involved in the staged disappearance and subsequent recovery of nine-year-old Shannon Matthews, has passed away at the age of 54.
Donovan and Shannon’s mother, Karen Matthews, orchestrated the plan in 2008, leading to a massive search effort by West Yorkshire Police.
Shannon, who was found alive after 24 days in Donovan’s flat in Batley Carr, suffered through a traumatic ordeal orchestrated by the pair.
Leeds Crown Court sentenced Donovan and Matthews to eight years in prison for charges including kidnap, false imprisonment, and perverting the course of justice.
A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Police confirmed Donovan’s passing, stating that inquiries will be carried out on behalf of the coroner.
