Kano govt spent N928bn on projects in three years – Commissioner

The Kano State Government says it has spent N928 billion on the execution of 1,508 developmental projects across the state’s 44 local government areas in the last three years.

The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Ma’aji, disclosed this during a press conference in Kano on Sunday, where he highlighted the achievements of the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf.

According to the commissioner, 799 of the projects have been completed, while 709 are at various stages of completion.

He noted that the figure does not include 619 constituency projects currently being executed across the state by members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Mr Ma’aji said the administration invested more than N169 billion in urban renewal initiatives, including road rehabilitation, drainage construction and other metropolitan infrastructure projects aimed at improving the state’s urban landscape.

He added that contracts worth over N118 billion had also been awarded for the construction of five-kilometre roads in 38 local government areas to enhance connectivity and ease of movement across the state.

On security, the commissioner said the government approved projects valued at over N6.863 billion for the construction of Kano State Neighbourhood Watch divisional offices in 36 local government areas.

According to him, the investment underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening community policing and improving security infrastructure.

Mr Ma’aji further disclosed that rural infrastructure projects covering education, healthcare and other social interventions across the 44 local government areas account for contracts worth more than N397 billion.

He added that other development projects executed by the administration have a cumulative value of about N255 billion.

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability and quality service delivery, stressing that all projects are being implemented in line with due process and established technical standards.

“The administration remains committed to sustaining development momentum across the state through strategic investment, effective project monitoring and transparent procurement processes,” he said.

He added that the Ministry of Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation would continue to ensure value for money and strict compliance with approved specifications in the execution of all government projects.

“We appreciate the support of all stakeholders and reiterate the administration’s dedication to delivering projects that meet the needs and aspirations of the people of Kano State,” Mr Ma’aji said.
