In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor said the nomination was in accordance with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The deputy governorship position became vacant after the resignation of former deputy governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.

Muhammad described Garo as an experienced political administrator with over two decades of public service.

The 48-year-old politician has served as state organising secretary of his party, special adviser to the governor, and chairman of Kabo Local Government Area.

He also served as chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Kano State and commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs.

Garo was the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 general elections.

The nomination, according to the statement, is part of efforts by the administration to strengthen governance and sustain effective service delivery in the state.
