‘January 22 Is The Day Governor Yusuf Gained Freedom, Not Betrayal Day’ – Ganduje

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has stated that January 22 will be celebrated as the day Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, gained freedom.

Naija News reports that Ganduje made this known while responding to remarks by the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, regarding the defection of Governor Yusuf from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso stated that January 22 would be celebrated as ‘World Betrayal Day’ following Yusuf’s defection, calling it a betrayal and disloyalty.

However, Ganduje, during a condolence visit to the residence of former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, over the death of his brother, maintained that January 22 was the day Yusuf gained freedom.

He said, “He considers me an enemy, but I am not his enemy; I am his brother.

“If he chooses to regard the day the governor left the NNPP, January 22, as ‘World Betrayal Day,’ then we will celebrate it as the day the governor gained his freedom.”

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected in Kano on Monday to formally receive Governor Yusuf into the APC at a grand reception scheduled to hold at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

Naija News understands that the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, and several APC governors are also billed to attend the event, which party leaders have described as a major political gathering aimed at consolidating the ruling party’s influence in the North-West.

Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, said the reception would symbolically and formally welcome Yusuf into the party.

He described the development as a significant milestone for the APC in Kano, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most strategic political strongholds.

According to him, extensive preparations have been concluded to ensure a hitch-free ceremony.
