“Industry that should be competing globally end up stuck in Nigeria vs Nigeria” – Actress Mary Njoku laments

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has lamented over the state of the industries in the country.

On her Instagram page, she expressed sadness at how industries that should be competing globally end up stuck in Nigeria vs Nigeria, rather than Nigeria vs the world.

She noted how we aren’t big yet, but rather than build together, we are busy tearing each other down, fighting over who becomes local champion.

Questioning why, Mary shared tips on how to grow, including competing for excellence and collaborating to create something bigger. She added that the real limitation isn’t the opportunity but the mindset.

Why?

If we truly want to grow, we need to shift. Compete on excellence. And where possible, collaborate to create something bigger than
ourselves.

Sometimes the real limitation isn’t the opportunity. It’s the mindset. People see room for expansion, but instead of building something bigger, they shrink it so only they can win. Choosing to remain local champions over creating shared success”.

Days back, Mary sent a message to those in hospitality, telling them to avoid working in hospitality of they enjoy premium wickedness. She made them aware that there are other roles, explaining that customer-facing jobs require patience and a welcoming attitude, and that this affects people’s experiences and hurts business when it is missing.

The mother of three had sent a message to cleaners, telling them to give their favourite celebrities privacy when using the bathroom. She pointed out how standing in front of the door and asking if they need help is not fair.

In an Instagram post, Jason Njoku’s wife admonished the public to stop outsourcing their happiness, to love themselves, to never place the responsibility for happiness on someone else, and to always put themselves first. She noted how life is short.

The ROK studio boss expressed confusion about the high number of impressive CVs and the fact that companies are still struggling to find employees. Mary pointed out how most CVs are solid, well-written, and tick all the boxes, but when one sits down with the person, something doesn’t connect. The founder of the ROK studios said CVs have quietly become marketing documents rather than true reflections of capabilities.

While weighing in on King Mitchy and VDM’s saga, Mary had questioned whether our generation truly has the capacity to focus on what’s important in their lives and futures. She pondered whether they had collectively chosen distraction over direction, lamenting over the level of noise and trivialities competing for attention.
