‘I’m not arguing with you,’ says Walmart shopper who knows their rights – and ‘never’ shows receipt after self-checkout

A WALMART shopper has filmed himself at the self-checkout showing others how to avoid receipt checks by knowing their rights.

As shoppers increasingly vent their frustrations about self-checkouts and how receipt checks make them feel like thieves, there is a key policy rule that they should know.

A TikTok user (@trenchesofphilly) posted a video on social media about how he successfully refuses receipt checks.

“Too many people don’t know that you can refuse to show your receipt at Walmart!” he said in the video.

“I NEVER show mine!”

The TikToker films himself paying for a drink at the self-checkout before leaving the store.

He is then stopped and asked for a receipt check by a Walmart employee.

“This Walmart called police on me first time I did this, and haven’t asked me for a receipt in over a year until today after officers informed them I wasn’t required to,” he explained.

He calmly responds to the worker: “You know we can refuse it right?

“Okay, well we refuse.”

As he walks away he adds: “I’m just saying we were just in self- checkout I know I’m not arguing with you.”

He then successfully left the store without being stopped for refusing his receipt check and was even praised by a fellow shopper.

As the pair left, a woman tells him he is “awesome” and he told viewers that he had made a friend.

The pair discuss how the receipt check rules are different at Sam’s Club where under the membership agreement customers agree to checks.

“By law, you cannot check a receipt [at Walmart],” the woman can be heard saying.

In the comments, viewers also alleged that the store profiles and targets specific customers for receipt checks.

“Not only is it rude to ask, but they profile when they ask,” one viewer said.

“I’ve witnessed this hundreds of times. They do not ask everyone. Watch and you’ll see.”

“It’s discrimination to ask one person and not others. Additionally by asking they are assuming you stole. Know the laws and rights,” another added.
