I was locked out of my Walmart account & lost $100s a day – even my identity was at risk and it’s a widespread problem

WALMART Spark drivers have complained about being targeted by hackers which has seen at least one lose hundreds of dollars a day.

A Spark driver from Texas who has chosen to stay anonymous revealed how her earnings went down to just $40 a day after being hacked.

Speaking to Business Insider, she explained how at the beginning of the month she was forced to contact Spark support after seeing the number of orders offered to her by Walmart dwindle dramatically.

Despite previously earning hundreds of dollars a day, a the beginning of the month she received just $40 and her phone call with a support agent revealed why.

The Spark support worker informed the driver that they would send her a test order offer to see if she received it through her smartphone.

However, the offer never arrived, but it was still accepted on her account.

“That’s when we realized something was wrong,” the driver told Business Insider.

The support agent informed the driver that someone else had access to her account and was accepting her offers and taking the work and the earnings for themselves.

Numerous orders over the previous two weeks had been accepted on her account that the driver had no idea of.

The driver has now changed her password but it is still baffled as to why Walmart workers continued to hand over orders to this other driver working under her name at the same Texas store.

“These people who know who I am were giving them orders under my name,” she said.

Fellow Spark driver Sherry Medellin from El Paso also spoke to Insider about how she realized her account had been hacked when she got a notification saying that she was signed in on two different devices.

Medellin only uses her smartphone for the app so she knew that something was wrong.

“There’s evidence of deliveries that I never took with Spark,” she said.

The Walmart Spark service has caused drivers numerous problems over the past few months with some drivers being offered work for as little as 52 cents in an app glitch.

A Spark driver sent a screenshot to Business Insider showing an estimated payout of just 52 cents for an order on January 23.

Another screenshot from a different driver showed an offer of 91 cents for an offer to shop and deliver items to an apartment 1.8 miles away from the Walmart store.

“There was a temporary issue that affected drivers in a particular area, which resulted in some drivers receiving an inaccurate offer amount,” a Walmart spokesperson told the news outlet.

“We worked quickly to correct the discrepancy, and drivers received adjusted earnings within the same earnings period.”

Meanwhile, in response to the claims of account hacking, Walmart has said that has introduced new measures to tackle the issue.

“We have comprehensive measures in place to prevent fraudulent activity, including preventing drivers from logging in from multiple devices under the same account, which is against the Spark Driver platform terms of use,” Walmart told BI.

“We continue to introduce new features to prevent fraudulent activity on the platform and strengthen our existing processes.

“Drivers should report any concerns to Spark Driver support so we can look into it further and take the appropriate action.”
