‘I thought the app was malfunctioning’ says lotto player after her husband picked up the wrong ticket but they still won

A HUSBAND’S mistake proved most fortunate for one couple as they claimed a $50,000 jackpot with an unintended ticket.

Tanya Hammonds from Newport, Kentucky asked her husband to visit a Circle K to purchase a ticket for her usual scratch-off game.

However, instead of buying Tanya’s favorite scratch-off, he accidentally bought the tickets just to the right of them.

But Tanya could not stay mad at her husband for long once the couple discovered that they had a winner.

“Before I scratched the numbers, I scratched off the barcode and scanned it,” she told lottery officials.

And because she hadn’t yet scratched the numbers off, she thought her app was glitching when it showed she’d won.

“I saw $50,000 and I thought the app was malfunctioning,” she said.

The pair scored the jackpot after every number was a match.

After discovering that the win was genuine, Hammonds knew who she should immediately contact.

She took a picture of the winning ticket and sent a screenshot of the winning page on her app to her mother.

The win was the perfect early-Christmas surprise but Hammonds has not revealed her plans for her new-found fortune.

Meanwhile, other lottery players have been urged to check their pockets and super safe secret spots for an unclaimed winning ticket.

A Mega Millions player in Louisiana has won $10,000 but the pot will expire in just days.

The drawing held on July 11 had winning numbers 10, 17, 33, 51, 64, and Mega Ball 05.

However, the $10,000 check will be unavailable to claim on January 7, 2024.

The ticket was sold at Budget Saver supermarket at 1900 Lafayette Street, Suite 13, Gretna, Louisiana.
