A GRANDMOTHER lost $500 cash and her phone after a supposed Good Samaritan approached her on her driveway.
Chitta Nix, from Gresham, Oregon, around 30 miles west of Portland, said the incident happened after she returned home from the bank.

Nix said a woman walked onto her driveway after she had stepped out of her car on Friday, March 8.
Video security footage showed the woman telling Nix she had dropped something by the ATM at her local KeyBank branch, according to local Fox affiliate KPTV.
The woman then opened Nix’s car door and robbed her bag from the front seat.
This bag contained $500 cash from the ATM, medical cards, her cell phone, and a bracelet Nix’s mother gave her.
“That’s what I am carrying with me all the time,” Nix said about the jewelry.
The grandmother shared that the incident had shaken her.
“I’m scared… Two days I couldn’t sleep,” Nix said.
Her daughter Jen Soutavong said her children were at home and helped her mom.
“My daughters called me frantically screaming, ‘Grandma got robbed,’” Soutavong said.
“Absolutely upset, violated. That’s my mother, the grandmother of my children,” she added.
“My children were in the house they ran out.”
The family posted the Ring security footage on social media in the hopes of finding the person who did it.
Soutavong said other people on social media came forward and claimed they also had the same thing happen to them.
“A lot of people have come forward on social media saying I was robbed by the same person,” Soutavong said.
“They recognize everything about the person, the hair or the next tattoo the vehicle accomplished that they had an accomplice.”
Gresham Police have not yet arrested a suspect and have asked anybody with information to contact them.
How to protect yourself at an ATM
Sacmmers and thieves have been targeting ATMs to steal people’s money.
These crimes can include stealing cash and also stealing card details.
ATM users can take several precautions to protect themselves from this type of crime:
- Cover your PIN and keep an eye on your card at all times
- Look for any loose wires or loose parts of the reader
- Gently pull the card reader to make sure a skimmer has not been placed on top
- Look for any camera above the PIN pad
- Place your money in your pocket and do not count it at the machine
