‘I have $0 left,’ bank customer admits after account was drained & closed down suddenly – simple call left her penniless

A BANK customer has told how her account was drained of all its money after receiving a simple automated voice message.

The TikTok user said the unknown number called her multiple times, warning her that $300 had left her account.

In a video, the user, who goes by the name LUNGS (@weareourlungs), said she wanted to share her story so that her followers wouldn’t make the same mistake she did.

She said she eventually picked up the call, only to hear an automated voice message informing her that $300 was charged to her account.

The message said if this was an unrecognized or fraudulent transaction, press the number 2 to continue.

After pressing 2, the message told her she would receive a six-digit code she was to enter into the keypad on her phone.

The next thing she knew, she could not log into her bank account.

After getting several error notifications from her bank’s website while trying to log in, she submitted a request to reset her password.

When her bank asked if the email and phone number under her contact information were hers, she did not recognize either credential.

“I freak out and call my bank. Essentially, they tell me my account was hacked,” she said.

The bank told her they would dispute this issue In 4 to 5 days and that she might get a refund check in the mail.

“They had to literally close my entire account,” she said.

“I have to make a brand new account.

“I don’t know where I’m going to put my direct deposit for my work,” she continued.

“I have $0 left.”

She ended her video with a main takeaway to impart to her followers.

“Don’t be like me. Don’t answer those automated phone calls.”

There are a number of warning signs to look out for to avoid falling victim to a phone scam.

Your phone may display a “spam/scam likely” warning, and if it does, you should not pick up the call.

The message may also appear pre-recorded, asking for urgent action to be taken around sensitive information.

“These targeted spam calls will try to trick you into giving up your personal information which allows cybercriminals to steal your money, your identity, and even your voice,” Keeper Security warned about the dangers of phone scams in a recent blog post.

“You should avoid answering spam calls to help prevent cybercriminals from trying to steal your personal information.”

“Cybercriminals will often impersonate banks, debt collectors or other large companies,” Keeper Security added.

“They will call you regarding some sort of unpaid charge you need to pay to avoid jail time or prevent losing your account.”
