A HOMELESS man in Washington has been hailed for doing the right thing after spotting $17,000 lying in the street outside a food bank.
Kevin Booth, 32, returned the thousands of dollars and was rewarded graciously with gift cards from the funds.

Booth, a homeless man from Sumner, Washington – 34 miles south of Seattle – stumbled upon a brown paper bag full of cash in 2018.
The bag was lying outside the Sumner Food Bank, and after careful inspection, Booth realized that it contained money, per the Seattle Times.
“At first, I was like, ‘What the heck is that lying on the ground?’” Booth told the outlet.
“Then I was like, ‘Do I take off or do I stay?’”
The homeless man opted to do the latter and gave the money to the food bank, which he had previously visited.
“We were very, very surprised,” Anita Miller, director of the food bank, told People.
“He said, ‘I knew it was for the food bank. It was a big decision whether to turn it in or not but I did because that’s stealing if I didn’t.
“It wasn’t for me.’”
Food bank staff inspected the bag and reached out to the police, who kept the cash for 90 days in case someone showed up to claim it.
“We have no idea where it came from,” Miller said.
“They thought somebody left it on our doorstep and wanted to give it to us.
“The police looked into it but nobody came forward. It was manna from heaven, I guess.”
After the 90-day waiting period, the cops turned the funds over to Sumner Food Bank to keep.
Food bank staff gave Booth some of the cash in the form of gift cards to reward his virtuous act.

The homeless man was also bestowed with a citizen citation in honor of his “selfless and honest actions.”
“Kevin kind of likes living outside. He makes the very best of it” the food bank director said of Booth.
“He’s just a really cool guy. He’s always got a big smile on his face.
“We will take care of him for a long, long time.
“This has been just a feel-good thing.
“It lets everybody know that there are just special people that are living out on the streets.”
