I had $180,000 disappear from my bank account without warning – I was left with only $1.50 but did nothing wrong

AN elderly woman was stunned to find that $180,000 had disappeared from her bank account.

The 86-year-old found only $1.50 left in her account after she was allegedly targeted by a surprising suspect.

Cops are now searching for Cecilia Hope Brown, a 29-year-old bank teller who had befriended the victim, local ABC affiliate KTRK reported.

Court documents reviewed by the news outlet showed that Brown is accused of swiping nearly $140,000 from the victim’s account.

Police say the elderly customer had developed a tight relationship with Brown, considering her “like a daughter” after the pair met at Frost Bank in Texas.

An investigation was launched earlier this year when the older woman called cops after finding only $1.50 in her account.

She told them that she hadn’t been the victim of any scams and that no one had access to the account except her bank teller, Brown.

The victim added that she’d never granted Brown permission to make any transfers.

It appears the woman’s savings were slowly robbed through multiple transactions starting February 21 through July 3, cops said.

Each transfer consisted of about $23,000.

Police noticed that the signature on the bank withdrawal strips didn’t match the older woman’s signature.

Cops got surveillance footage of each withdrawal and Brown was allegedly seen taking money from the bank vault without giving it to the customer.

At one point, Brown’s supervisor asked Brown about the suspicious withdrawals.

Brown reportedly claimed that she’d taken the money from the older woman’s vehicle, which is why the older woman wasn’t seen on the security footage.

Brown was placed on administrative leave after being caught withdrawing money without the victim present.

“She stated she thought she was doing a good thing for the customer,” said the supervisor.

Brown is now facing a second-degree felony charge of aggregate theft and a warrant is out for her arrest.

The victim, meanwhile, was reimbursed for the missing money.

Frost Bank declined to comment further on the case, saying it doesn’t discuss details of ongoing legal action.

Brown is no longer employed by the bank, KTRK reported.
