Former Premier star Andy Townsend has kicked against Crystal Palace’s decision to sack Patrick Vieira as their manager, insisting it was ‘unnecessary’.
Crystal Palace sacked the former Arsenal midfielder last week after a 1-0 defeat to Brighton.
The decision to sack the Frenchman followed the Eagles failure to win in 12 matches and dropping to just 3 points above relegation zone.
But Townsend told talkSPORT he does not understand the reason for the former Arsenal star’s dismissal.
He said: “I couldn’t understand it.
“I know there are not a lot of points, but there is a lot of traffic below Crystal Palace. Now, in two or three games, there might not be..
“I felt it was way too early to get rid of Patrick Vieira.
“Making that change right now was unnecessary.”
