A WALMART shopper has slammed the retailer for a controversial anti-theft measure he vowed to not participate in.
Daniel Moore said he was against receipt checks and claimed it was his constitutional right to walk right out of a Walmart store after buying his goods.

The shopper shared his angry thought on Facebook, in response to a story on a huge change at a specific location.
A Walmart store in Cleveland, Ohio, said it was set to remove all self-checkout lanes, according to the post by CBS affiliate WOIO.
The customer said this change did not concern him but receipt checks did.
“I could care less about self check out,” Moore wrote.
“What i dont like is being stopped on my way out thier store so you can check my receipt like im trying to steal something.”
The customer compared shopping at Walmart to Sam’s Club and explained why he was not upset with the big-box retailer.
“First off walmart isnt sams club i didnt sign a contract that says ill show my reciept to you as i leave ur establishment,” he wrote.
The U.S. Sun has previously reported on the difference between receipt checks at regular grocery stores like Walmart and membership stores like Sam’s Club and Costco.
A lawyer explained that membership stores legally require shoppers to show their proof of purchase as they agreed to these terms and conditions when they signed up.
Moore explained how he responded to receipt check requests and what his constitutional rights had to do with it.
“So when i leave walmart and they ask to see my reciept i tell them no and keep it pushing and i warn them that i know my rights,” he wrote.
“Yes i exercise every one of my constitutional rights every day because i believe if we dont use them we will soon lose them,” he added.
Another shopper commented on this post and shared Moore’s thoughts on the anti-theft measure.
“I don’t care what they do,” Welch said.

Camron Dowlatshahi, a Los Angeles attorney, spoke to The U.S. Sun about receipt checks and customer’s rights and options when it came to being asked to show your receipt.
- There has been a lot of debate around the legality of a retailer asking to see your receipt, but if it is within the store, it is completely legal. “There’s seemingly nothing illegal about that. You’re still on the company’s premises and their reason to do it is to prevent thefts,” Dowlatshahi confirms.
- However, if they are chasing you out of the store, that changes things, Dowlatshahi said. “Location matters,” he explained. “If you’re outside of the store you’re in the parking lot and they come and start accusing you of theft and that you have to show your receipt, I think that’s a bit of a different situation because now you’re on your way.”
- While customers are allowed to say no to receipt checks, it may cause issues if you do and the store suspects you of stealing. “You can say no, maybe it creates an unnecessary hassle for yourself because now you may have the police come to your house and follow up,” said Dowlatshahi.
- If you are being barred from leaving a store because you refused a receipt check, you could have a legal case — but the store must have held you for a long time. “Let’s say it’s for hours, that’s certainly false imprisonment, and they didn’t have any impetus for doing so,” Dowlatshahi explained. “If a customer has been emotionally traumatized by being held for false imprisonment, I would definitely encourage [them] to sue.”
- “I would say, show your receipt,” he concluded. “It’s just a really simple thing to do. If you didn’t steal anything, it’s relatively simple to do,” the lawyer advised.
“But you aren’t checking my receipt either way!”
The shopper explained her take was about the store’s belief in its customers.
“Either you do or you trust me to do it,” she said.
RECEIPT HACK
As these sorts of complaints have risen, The U.S. Sun has previously reported on another shopper who shared their trick to avoid getting stopped by staff.
The shopper’s potential solution involved partially using the receipt.
“That’s how I trick them….,” she said.
“Put it out and they wave me on.”
The hack was to have her proof of purchase in her hand but not stop to have staff look through it.
“You always have to act normal when your [sic] up to no good,” she added.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.
