The Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa has suspended his Commissioner for Commerce, Aminu Kanta, over alleged misappropriation of Ramadan feeding funds.
Mr Kanta, who hails from Babura Local Government Area, was asked to step aside pending an investigation on the allegations of misappropriation of funds allocated for the Iftar feeding programme in his LGA.
The notice of his suspension is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, and issued by his spokesperson, Sama’ila Ibrahim.
The statement said the move was part of the government’s commitment to ensuring financial accountability and prudent management of public funds.
“The governor directed the issuance of suspension in a letter, conveyed by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim.
“The Commissioner was suspended for alleged involvement in mismanagement of the Iftar Feeding Programme Fund in Babura Local Government Area. The suspension is with immediate effect,” the statement said.
Recall that the State Executive Council had approved the release of N2.8bn for the Ramadan Iftar feeding programme across the 27 local government areas of the state.
A total of 600 designated feeding centres were established, with a minimum of two locations in each political ward.
The programme targets feeding at least 300 people throughout the fasting period.
