Naija News reports that the decision was made known by the Head of the State Civil Service, Muazu Shehu, who said the new wage will apply to staff in all 11 local government councils, workers under the Local Education Authorities, and those in primary healthcare.

He added that the implementation will begin in May 2026.

According to him, the state has now completed the payment process by settling the remaining 43 per cent, bringing the total implementation of the wage structure to full completion.

He explained that the move became possible due to better financial standing at the local government level, which has improved their ability to pay salaries regularly without delays.

The Head of Service also said the development is expected to improve workers’ commitment, increase their output, and help strengthen services at the grassroots level.

He said: “With the decision, the state government has cleared the remaining 43 per cent balance, completing 100 per cent implementation of the wage structure.”

Before now, civil society groups had continued to push for the full implementation of the minimum wage for local government workers, pointing to the rising cost of living in the country.
