Gombe ADC Warring Factions Reconcile

African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State has resolved its internal crisis, as party leaders announced the collapse of all factions and the emergence of a unified structure following a reconciliation meeting held on Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists, the state secretary, Malam Danladi Yau, declared that the ADC in Gombe is now one and united under the leadership of Senator Abdullah Idris Umar as state leader, with Mallam Awwal Abubakar Barde serving as state chairman.

Yau described the reconciliation as a major success, coming on the heels of a court affirmation of the national leadership of Senator David Mark, which he said has cleared the path for the party’s full political activities.

He announced that the ADC will soon commence a statewide membership drive, including fresh registrations and revalidation of old membership cards, while urging Gombe residents to also register as voters to enable them to effect the change they desire at the polls.

In his remarks, Senator Abdullah Idris Umar, the party’s state leader, said the reconciliation has produced a single, cohesive ADC structure in the state, with all former factions, transition committees and stakeholders agreeing to operate under a common leadership.

He stressed that unity has strengthened the party, describing the ADC as the most formidable opposition party in Nigeria, and expressing confidence that the party will form government at both federal and state levels, as well as secure substantial representation in the National Assembly and state houses of assembly in 2027.

Umar disclosed that the party would soon roll out a comprehensive membership drive, followed by congresses expected between February and March, assuring members of a level playing field, inclusiveness and fairness in party affairs.

According to the party officials, the meeting, attended by senior party figures and stakeholders, dissolved the rival factions, setting the stage for renewed mobilisation and consolidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

LEADERSHIP learns that before the reconciliation, the ADC in Gombe State had been weakened by prolonged factional disputes that produced parallel leadership claims and rival camps, creating internal tension and slowing party activities.

The rivalry revolved around three camps, each led by ambitious politicians: Barde, who lost the 2019 APC governorship ticket to Governor Inuwa Yahaya; Idris, former Minister of Transportation, and, to some extent, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, a former communications minister, who took the third faction.

The divisions confused members at the grassroots and also undermined the party’s ability to mobilise effectively and present a united opposition ahead of key political engagements.
