GCI Old Boys clinch 2026 CCC League title

Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association Cricket Club delivered a commanding performance to emerge champions of the 2026 Club Cricket Committee Lagos Premier League, dethroning Rising Stars Cricket Club by 117 runs in the final on Sunday at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Having opted to bat first, GCI Old Boys made full use of the decision, posting an imposing 180 for six in their allotted 20 overs, setting a daunting target for their opponents in the title decider.

The innings was anchored by Yellow Greens captain Sylvester Okpe, who produced a match-winning knock of 86 runs off 46 balls, laced with nine fours and four sixes, asserting his dominance from the crease.

He was well supported by Vincent Adewoye, who added a brisk 55 off 32 deliveries, as the pair laid a solid foundation that ultimately proved beyond Rising Stars.

In response, Rising Stars Cricket Club struggled from the outset and were unable to build any meaningful partnerships, eventually folding for 63 all out in 16.1 overs.

Chimezie Onwuzulike’s modest 14 off 13 balls stood as the highest score of the innings, underlining the extent of their batting collapse under sustained pressure.

Okpe returned to further stamp his authority on the final with the ball, claiming four wickets to complete an outstanding all-round performance that dismantled the opposition.

The emphatic victory sealed the CCC League title for GCI Old Boys, ending Rising Stars reign and reinforcing their status as one of the leading sides in the competition, which is regarded as a key platform for cricket development in Nigeria.

Last week, Island Titans Cricket Club claimed the 40-over title at the University of Lagos Cricket Oval, beating Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club by 67 runs.
