The 46-year-old West Michigan native was previously principal at Montague High School, about half an hour from Hart.

Following his death, friends, family, and former students are showing their love by posting photos of Moran.

Some shared group shots, while others opted to post tributes with a solo image of Moran.

“I’ve had many former students reach out in the last 24 hours talking about how great of a person he was,” Scott Volkmann, a former colleague of Moran, posted on Facebook.

“He made everyone around him better.”

Volkmann isn’t the only one to praise Moran both as a principal and a person.

Emma LaVoie Greenwood, a teacher at Montague High School where Moran was once a principal, wrote on Facebook, “He inspired students, staff, and community,  literally every day.  He was the epitome of what a great leader was.”

“The amount of people devastated by this loss is a true testament to who he was,” Greenwood continued.

“He made a difference in this world for the better, every single day!  His ability to build community and people up was his mission.”

A childhood friend of the late principal, Melissa Dyer-Ritchie, posted several paragraphs on Facebook reminiscing on her younger years with Moran.

“Having known Troy for the first half of our lives, I can’t stop reminiscing about the boy that he was,” Dyer-Ritchie wrote.

“The boy who I have countless memories of from the first 20 years of my life and who grew into this amazing man that everyone now knows.”

Another family friend of Moran’s, Pollie Gilchrist, wrote about her shock after finding out about Moran’s death.

“As you get older, certain calls you never want to get. This one has shaken me to my core,” Gilchrist wrote.

“This shouldn’t happen to someone like you my friend.”

“My life was definitely better because I knew you Troy Moran. I am happy my Dad finally has a fishing buddy again,” Gilchrist continued.

“You leave a life filled with memories, love, tradition, and legacy that will bless the students, communities, and your own family and children for generations to come.”

Another friend, Chase Jancek, wrote Moran will be “greatly missed.”

“I am so incredibly thankful for how close we got over the past year. From long runs and lifts, to hot tub cigars & deep conversations about the Bible, it was an absolute privilege [sic] to know you.”

Individual tributes aside, comments under a video shared of Moran on Facebook continue to show just how beloved the principal was in his community.

Under the video, there are dozens of heartbreaking comments from anyone acquainted with Moran.

One former student wrote, “I’m so devastated, he was my 8th grade history teacher at Timberland.”
