At least four suspected cultists have been arrested in the Ilaro area of Ogun State for alleged assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The suspects were identified as Samson John (25), Olufowora Michael (28), Odeh Samuel Ejeh (25), and Olajide Jeremiah (28).

In a statement issued on Monday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the arrests followed a complaint lodged at the Ilaro Division on April 16, 2026.

“On April 16, 2026, at about 11:30pm, a report was made at the station. The complainant stated that earlier the same day, at about 1pm, Samson John, in the company of six others, stormed his residence, assaulted him, threatened him with an axe, and robbed him of his mobile phone, an iPhone 14 Pro Max,” the statement read.

Babaseyi noted that the suspects were apprehended following a swift response by operatives, with several items recovered during the operation.

“Upon a swift response and subsequent investigation by operatives, the suspects were apprehended. During the operation, one locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms, and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max were recovered,” the statement added.

The command said the suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

“The suspects are in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, reiterating the command’s zero tolerance for cultism and violent crimes.

“He reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for cultism and other violent crimes, assuring residents that all criminal elements will be decisively dealt with,” the statement added.

The development comes less than 24 hours after the command announced the arrest of three armed suspects in separate operations across the Mowe and Sagamu axis, where locally made firearms, cartridges, and charms believed to be linked to cult-related and other criminal activities were recovered.

The arrests were made between April 14 and 18, 2026, during intelligence-led operations and stop-and-search duties conducted by divisional units and the Quick Response Squad.
