Foundation to tackle homelessness with 500-capacity shelter

A foundation, Everlasting Fountain Welfare Initiative, has stated its plan to address the challenges of homelessness through the construction of a 500-capacity shelter in Ogun State.

The founder, Abiola Adeniyi, disclosed this during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project held in Obafe town on Saturday.

The shelter, which will be situated on seven acres of land, is also expected to house a training centre where beneficiaries will acquire various skills.

Speaking at the event, Adeniyi said the initiative was inspired by her childhood experiences and the growing number of Nigerians facing homelessness.

She noted that the proposed facility would serve as a rehabilitation centre to help individuals rediscover their purpose and develop useful skills.

She said, “People struggle not just because of what they will eat today, but because of uncertainty about tomorrow. This inspired us to act, to restore hope, reintegrate lives, and support those in need.

“Since 2021, starting with our ‘Youth Against Idleness’ programme in Magboro, we have provided accommodation, paid school fees, and supported many vulnerable individuals.

“Through this shelter, we will bring those who do not have purpose, help them realise their purpose, and train them in various skills that will make them better members of society.”

Adeniyi added that the foundation also planned to establish a farming institute as part of the project to serve as a training hub for interested individuals.

According to her, the institute would offer training in livestock and other areas of agriculture.

She said beneficiaries would be selected without religious discrimination and urged both the federal and state governments to support non-governmental organisations working to uplift vulnerable members of society.

Adeniyi also appreciated the support of her church, New Covenant Church, and volunteers, while pledging transparency in the management of donations received from the public.

Also speaking, the Patron of the foundation, Victor Adeniyi, described the project as a dream realised through collective effort and divine support.

“What started as a dream in our bedroom has now become a reality, and we give all glory to God. We appreciate everyone who has supported us, especially members of New Covenant Church. Your presence and contributions mean a lot to us.

“The Everlasting Shelters project is envisioned as a sanctuary for the homeless and less privileged—a place of restoration, empowerment, and renewed purpose for individuals seeking a better future,” he said.
