Footballers earn more than musicians- Skales

Nigerian singer Skales has said that footballers earn more money than musicians, citing the structure and consistency of the sport compared to the unpredictability of the music industry.

Speaking during an interview on The Groovy Mono Show monitored by PUNCH Online on Monday, the artist said,

“Footballers earn more money than musicians.” he averred.

He explained that football provides a steady income even for players who are not globally famous.

“As long as you are an active footballer and you’re playing, you’re earning salaries and bonuses. You don’t have to be the most popular player in the world,” he said.

Skales contrasted this with the music industry, which he described as highly competitive and uncertain.

“Music is very competitive and unpredictable. You can be here today and gone tomorrow,”** he noted.

According to him, success in music depends heavily on staying relevant over time, something he suggested can feel beyond human control.

“Staying relevant in the music industry sometimes feels like something you can’t fully control,”he added.

The singer also revealed that he once missed out on a luxury jewellery deal worth over $300,000 that was tied to a young footballer.

“I once lost a jewellery deal worth over $300,000 because it was linked to a footballer,’ he said.

He used this example to highlight how footballers benefit from lucrative endorsement opportunities off the pitch, regardless of their level of fame.

“Footballers get endorsement deals even if they’re not globally famous,”he explained.

Skales added that while a few Nigerian artists achieve major financial success, many others struggle to earn a consistent income.

“Only a few artists make a lot of money, but many are struggling to earn consistently,” he said.

He concluded by emphasizing the financial stability that football offers compared to music.

“Football gives you a more reliable path to financial stability if you make it professionally,” Skales stated.
