A HIGH school football coach has been arrested after he admitted to killing his girlfriend during an argument, police said.
Carl Kearney Jr., 43, was arrested on Saturday in Prince George’s County, Maryland, outside Washington, DC, after he walked into a police station and confessed to strangling his girlfriend inside a home, cops said.

After Kearney Jr. walked into a Prince George’s County Police Department station, cops conducted a welfare check at a home in Accokeek, Maryland.
In the home, police found Patrina Best, 38, dead.
“During an interview with homicide unit detectives, Kearney confessed to strangling the victim during an argument,” police said in a press release.
Kearney Jr. was charged with first and second-degree murder and other charges, according to police.

Kearney Jr. was the head coach of the varsity football team at Spalding High School in Griffin, Georgia.
At the time of Best’s murder, Spalding High School was on its mid-winter break, according to the school’s website.
Kearney Jr. became the head coach for Spalding High School’s football team in 2020 and took the team to its first regional title in 20 years last season.
He quickly turned the program around after going 1-9 the previous season.
Under Kearney Jr.’s leadership, the Spalding football club finished 13-1 and reached the Class 4A quarterfinals.
The Spaldings reached the playoffs in every season Kearney Jr. was head coach.
Kearney Jr. played college football at Georgia Southern University after graduating from Griffin High School.
He played the wide receiver position and signed with the New York Jets in 2004.
He played for the Jets’ preseason team in 2004 and 2005 but was never signed to the main roster.
