Former Nigeria’s forward, Finidi George, has been appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to lead the Super Eagles in a friendly match against Ghana‘s Black Stars in Marrakech, Morocco.
The 52-year-old former Ajax and Real Betis winger, known for his scoring debut in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, will temporarily take on the chief’s corner as a group of 22 players face off against Ghana and Mali.
George made his debut in 1991 with a scoring performance that included assisting legendary Rashidi Yekini and scoring the goal that sent Nigeria to its first World Cup.
In the Super Eagles camp in Marrakech, defenders Gabriel Osho and Tyronne Ebuehi, and forwards Victor Osimhen and Taiwo Awoniyi are out due to injury.
Players already in camp include goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Olorunleke Ojo, defenders Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Jamilu Collins, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Benjamin Tanimo among others.
Midfielders Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Alhassan Yusuf, and forwards Moses Simon, Nathan Tella, Cyriel Dessers, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Sadiq Umar, and Ademola Lookman are also present.
Additional players are expected to join the camp, including Francis Uzoho, Chidozie Awaziem, Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Bright Osayi-Samuel.
After the Ghana match, the Super Eagles will take on Les Aigles of Mali at the same venue on March 26.
