The Mandate Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe has revealed plans by the the FCT Administration to upgrade some hospitals in the territory.
Fasawe reiterated the determination and commitment of the administration to improve the healthcare infrastructure in the hospitals.
In a statement on Sunday signed by the Assistant Director of Information at the HSES, Badaru Yakasai, Fasawe revealed this during the assessment tour by the delegation from the African Union Commission to Maitama and Asokoro district hospitals in Abuja.
The Mandate Secretary, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Baba-Gana Adam, added that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike recently announced the plan by the administration to upgrade some hospitals in the territory with infrastructure.
“The FCT Administration has placed health as a top priority to the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, and as such, three hospitals in FCT will get a facelift to meet up to standard. These hospitals are Gwagwalada, Utako, and Gwarinpa General hospitals,” she noted.
Speaking earlier, the Acting Head, Medical Laboratory, African Union Commission, who is also the leader of the delegation, Kalifa Manneh, said the purpose of the visit is to conduct an assessment of medical and health services in the district hospitals.
Manneh further said that the commission sent an 18-member delegation to assess FCT’s readiness to host the African Humanitarian Department.
In her welcome address, the Medical Director, Maitama District Hospital, Dr. Rita Idemudia noted that the hospital is determined to provide affordable and accessible health services using modern and appropriate technology.
