Edo senator seeks re-election, reels out achievements

The senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, has said the state will have the chance of having a ranking senator if he is re-elected into the red chamber next year.

He stated this on Saturday in Benin while presenting his 30-month scorecard to the senatorial leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress.

He said becoming a ranking senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would put him in a good position to serve the people better than he had done, noting that the ranking would unlock unprecedented opportunities for Edo South.

Imasuen, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, said that he had touched the lives of his people with life-changing developmental programmes.

The senator, who described himself as an unyielding optimist,  said he had an abiding faith in the policies of the government, both in Edo State and at the federal level, noting that through discipline and consistency, the country would prevail.

He said, “Firstly, I can assure you that if re-elected, the state will get the chance of having a ranking senator in the red chamber next year, which will be of great value to the people.

“The mandate you entrusted to me has been guided by one clear vision: to deliver an impactful representation and to elevate the quality of life for our people.

“That vision is anchored on human capital development, and it has shaped every achievement that has been documented in the 54-page account of stewardship now in your hands.

“From the onset, our policy thrust has been local economic development. We have chosen to invest in people, in education, in training and retraining, and in the strategic empowerment of our youth and women, with deliberate focus on the girl-child.”

The senator reeled out his achievements to include scholarships for students, vocational training, healthcare for the constituents and road infrastructure.

He said, “We have facilitated scholarships for students across the district, and we are set to commence the renovation and equipping of selected public schools.

“We have organised vocational and skill acquisition programmes in ICT, tailoring, welding, bag and shoe making, agriculture, and agro-processing, because dignity begins with the ability to earn.

“Our defining intervention has been in healthcare. To reduce maternal and infant mortality, we revived the time-tested role of traditional birth attendants, equipping them to provide prenatal and antenatal services to women who cannot access formal health centres.

“This programme is implemented under the strict supervision of the Edo State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to ensure compliance with medical standards.

“In road infrastructure, we have completed the first phase of two critical projects: the 3.5km Osasere Osayogie/Utekon Bypass link road, with dual side drainage, in Ovia North East LGA. We have also completed 2km of the Irokhin Road in Orhionmwon LGA. The extension of this road, from Ogan alongside others, is captured in the 2026 Appropriation Act.”

He called for unity while charging his constituents to eschew hate speeches and take decisions that would benefit the people.

‎Former Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu, declared support for the second term bid of the senator as he urged party faithful to avoid discrimination among aspirants and rally behind whoever emerges victorious.

‎The event drew prominent APC leaders, members of the state House of Assembly, former Edo South senator, Matthew Urhoghide, former Oredo council boss, Osaro Obazee, and other stakeholders from across the senatorial district.
