Disturbing details emerge after Brazoswood High School teacher’s arrest as ex-pupil claims ‘she assaulted her as a teen’

A HIGH school teacher has been arrested on 12 counts of child sex abuse charges in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred in 2007.

Brandyn Hargrove, 43, who was once awarded teacher of the year at Brazoswood High School, was arrested on Thursday in Clute, Texas, about an hour south of Houston.

Clute police said the incident began in 2007 when the victim, whose identity is being withheld by authorities, was a 15-year-old student at Brazoswood High School.

Police Chief James Fitch said the victim, who is now in her 30s, came forward in September about the allegations, saying the incidents occurred off-campus and went on for two years.

“Unfortunately, this happens more and more these days,” Chief Fitch said on Thursday.

“Since that time we have other laws in effect, the improper relationship between educator and student was not in effect back then.

“But your kids go to school and you trust the teachers with that and then these types of things happen.”

Chief Fitch said the ongoing probe took two years because the victim came forward 15 years after the incident allegedly occurred.

The Brazosport Independent School District said Hargrove was immediately placed on leave once they learned of the investigation.

Hargrove has since been let go by the school.

Parents of kids at Brazoswood High School were shocked to learn about the teacher’s alleged actions, claiming Hargrove and her family are well-known around the community.

Mike Walls, whose son is currently enrolled at the school, said his older son had Hargrove as a teacher years ago.

“I think every parent is concerned about this,” Walls told local NBC affiliate KPRC-TV.

“She’s won numerous awards. She sat on our education foundation for the district,” he said.

“That’s not good,” another parent told local CBS affiliate KTBU-TV.

“You know, you’re there to learn and then this happens.”

Hargrove was charged with six counts of sexual assault of a child, four counts of indecency with a child by contact, and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure.

She was released hours after her arrest after posting a $240,000 bond.

Fitch said they are not investigating any other victims, but if there are more victims, he urges them to contact the Clute Police Department.
