Dangote Trucks Record 56% Crash Reduction After FRSC Safety Audit

The Dangote Group has credited the Federal Road Safety Corps for a major decline in road crashes involving its trucks following a comprehensive safety review of its transport operations.

The company said crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks dropped by 56 per cent after the FRSC conducted a Safety System Gap Analysis on its transport operations in September 2025.

The commendation was made during an appreciation visit to the FRSC national headquarters by the Head of Transport for Dangote Group, Murillo Silva, and his team.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer of the FRSC, Osondu Ohaeri, on May 26.

Silva praised the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, for what he described as strategic recommendations and professionalism that significantly improved the company’s transport safety system.

According to him, the collaboration between the FRSC and Dangote Group has already produced measurable safety improvements and repositioned the company’s transport operations toward becoming a model for fleet management and road safety compliance.

The earlier FRSC audit reportedly uncovered several operational deficiencies, including violations of speed limiter regulations, poor driver rest management, overloading and weak safety monitoring systems.

The review also linked the high crash exposure largely to human-related factors.

However, following the implementation of the FRSC recommendations, comparative data between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 showed significant improvements.

Statistics presented during the review indicated that crash cases dropped from 25 in the first quarter of 2025 to 11 during the same period in 2026.

Fatal crashes also declined by 36 per cent, while the number of injured persons reduced from 89 to 42, representing a 52 per cent decrease.

The report further showed that deaths from crashes involving Dangote trucks dropped by 60 per cent from 35 deaths recorded in 2025 to 14 in 2026.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal described the outcome as evidence that data-driven interventions, collaboration and proactive safety measures remain critical to reducing road accidents and saving lives.

He commended the Dangote Group for embracing professional scrutiny and implementing recommended reforms, noting that continued compliance could position the company among the safest fleet operators in Africa.

Mohammed also urged other transport and logistics companies to adopt similar proactive safety measures to improve operational standards and reduce crashes on Nigerian roads.
