The Dallas Cowboys have made a significant move ahead of the NFL Draft by signing veteran running back Royce Freeman to add depth to their backfield.
Freeman, a seasoned six-year player who has had stints with multiple teams including the Rams in 2023, brings valuable experience to the Cowboys.
Originally a third-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2018, Freeman has seen action with the Broncos, Panthers, Texans, and most recently the Rams.
Throughout his career, Freeman has primarily served as a backup and role player, tallying just nine starts in his 79 games played across different teams.
Last season, while with the Los Angeles Rams, Freeman rushed for 319 yards, marking his highest single-season output since 2019.
With 471 rush attempts under his belt, Freeman now becomes the most seasoned running back on the Dallas Cowboys roster, providing a wealth of experience to the team.
Among the other running backs on the Cowboys’ roster are Deuce Vaughn, Snoop Connor, Malik Davis, and Hunter Luepke, with Rico Dowdle having notable playing time as well.
Despite the addition of Freeman, the Cowboys’ draft strategy for next week is unlikely to change significantly, as the departure of starting running back Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans in free agency has left a gap to be filled.
